JUST BY WATCHING THIS VIDEO YOU ARE RAISING MONEY TO HELP WHITE RIBBON PREVENT FAMILY VIOLENCE
Men’s violence against women is an ongoing epidemic in Australia and, sadly, the COVID pandemic has made the situation worse; lockdowns and social distancing have not only created a spike in violence but also reduced the ability of victims to seek help. To stop this, we need to change the attitudes and social norms that excuse or condone disrespect, sexual harassment and abuse. We all need to play our part – and we need men who know that they are a part of the solution to be equipped with the tools they need to make change in themselves, their communities and our society.
Rosie Batty is Co-Chair of the White Ribbon Australia Advisory Council. Rosie was a grieving mother who spoke out calmly just hours after her son’s murder at the hands of his father, giving her voice to many thousands of victims of domestic violence who had until then remained unheard. Rosie has risen above her personal tragedy and the great loss of her 11-year-old son, Luke, who was the victim of domestic violence in a very public assault.
Brad Chilcott is the former Executive Director of White Ribbon Australia under the guidance of Communicare’s Executive and Board, and brought the organisation back ‘with a renewed focus on community engagement and committing our resources, advocacy, and activities to bring about meaningful change in the prevention of gendered violence in Australia.”
